CONWAY — The Bryant Lady Hornets freshman volleyball team suffered just their second loss in six matches this season on Monday, Sept. 14. Conway Blue rallied after Bryant won the first game of the match with relative ease, and eked out a 14-25, 26-24, 25-23 win in the contest between rivals from the South Division of the Central Arkansas Junior High Conference.
The Bryant White eighth grade team also absorbed a setback, 13-25, 18-25.
McKenzie Rice led the freshman team with seven kills. Hannah Rice and McKenzie Adams each had five. Courtney Davidson and Rice contributed five assists each.
In service, Hannah Rice served the Lady Hornets from points 3 through 7 then 20 to 24 in the first game. Alyssa Anderson took the Lady Hornets from points 9 to 13. In the second, Hannah Rice served points 21 to 24. In the third game, McKenzie Rice served from 8 to 12.
“Most of our kills were in the first game,” mentioned coach Monica Parish. “The other two games, we were not aggressive and settled for way too many free balls which led to Conway having more offensive plays.”[more]
The Lady Hornets travel to play Cabot South in their next match on Thursday, Sept. 17.
Of the eighth grade game, head coach DeAnna Ward said, “Our serving was a bright spot. Katy Stillman had two aces and Kaitlyn Greer had one ace.
“We are making a lot of progress,” she added, “and we’ll spend the next couple of weeks practiving hard before our next game against Benton on Sept. 28 at home.”
