Fall Friday nights in Bryant haven't changed much in three decades.
Even back in the day when the football team wasn't well known, when an important game came to town, the buzz and excitement filled the air. A pep assembly, everyone wearing 'Go Hornets' ribbons, an inspirational speech to the students from the coaches and players, the band playing the fight song and the cheerleaders doing their clickity-clack.[more]
All the businesses, although few at the time, always had signs in their windows or magnet letters on their outside signs that supported the Hornets.
Those times are still the same in Bryant.
The Bryant High School athletic department is drumming up support from local businesses for the Hornets’ football game against Conway on Friday night.
Signs around the city are expected to read "Go Hornets, Beat Conway."
Conway is 6-0 on the year and Bryant is 5-1 and the winner will likely get the inside track to the 7A/6A-Central conference regular season championship. In addition, it will be Mass Band Night. The school is pre-selling tickets due to the large crowd expected.
"I would like all the local business to be aware that there will be more people in town than for a normal game," said Bryant Athletic Director Tom Farmer. "To accommodate all of this, we will be hauling in bleachers for the event and I would like for each business to help the Hornets beat the Wampus Cats. This is a very important game for Bryant and we need everyone to be at the game and we need the entire town behind the Hornets."
Gates at Hornets Stadium will open at 4 p.m., instead of 5 p.m.
