The shots just weren’t falling for the Bryant White Lady Hornets basketball team as it made its 2009-10 season debut against the Morrilton girls eighth grade team on Monday, Nov. 9.
The Lady Hornets forced 24 turnovers and collected 17 offensive rebounds which produced 11 more shot attempts than the Lady Devil Pups. But they hit just 20 percent of their shots n a 34-21 loss.[more]
Destin Nichols, Alex Wright and Katie Whitworth each had 4 points to lead the Bryant White scoring.
Morrilton got out to a 9-2 start in the game, running off 9 straight points after Nichols hit the first basket.
Katy Stillman ended the 9-0 run off a feed from Wright who had grabbed an offensive rebound.
Morrilton led 11-6 going into the second quarter. Brittany Privett hit a 10-foot jumper after a steal by Nichols to start the second quarter, trimming the lead to 3. But the Lady Hornets could get no closer.
It was 13-10 after a basket by Becka Shaddon for Bryant with 4:28 left in the first half but Morrilton finished the period with a 8-2 run interrupted only by a basket from Wright.
The lead ballooned to 14 by the end of the third quarter then reached 34-16 with 2:46 left in the game. A free throw by Courtney Bulthuis and Whitworth’s two baskets helped close the gap at the end.
Bryant White is set to return to action at the Cabot eighth grade Classic Nov. 19-21.
