BENTON — Littlefield, Texas scored four early runs then frustrated the Bryant All-Stars,[more] forcing them to leave runners in scoring position at the end of four of the six innings to extract a 5-1 win in the opener of the Cal Ripken 12-year-old (46/60) Southwest Regional Tournament at Bernard Holland Park on Friday.
Bryant was scheduled to return to action today at 1 p.m.
The Bryant 46/60 team include Landon Abernathy, Ethan Cozzens, Dylan Davis, Lawson Fincher, Austin Hooper, Audrey Horn, Jared Morales, Jake Roedel, Kyle Sahr, Joseph Small, Logan Valestin and Diego Vargas. Rob Roedel is the manager. His assistants are Keith Horn and Brian Hooper.
Bryant took a 1-0 lead in the opening inning when Morales singled and Hooper and Roedel walked. Morales scored but Hooper was ruled out due to interference on a ball hit by Valestin. With two down, Fincher drew a walk to load the bases but the Texas team got out of the jam.
And Littlefield took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the inning. A single and a walk got things started. Bryant got a force at third but a pair of hits pushed the two runs home before Bryant ended the inning on a force at third.
Abernathy singled with one out in the second but the Stars were unable to take advantage. In turn, Littlefield tacked on a pair of runs with a two-out rally. A single and a walk were followed by an error that extended the inning. A walk and a base hit got the runners home.
In Bryant’s third, Roedel reached on an error and Small smacked a one-out single but both were stranded. Littlefield answered with a run on a walk, a double and a single to make it 5-1.
Abernathy was hit by a pitch with one out in the fourth and got to second but no further. In the fifth, Small walked and Fincher reached base to put runners at first and second with two out. The Stars were retired in order in the sixth.
