Diamond Sports of Bryant will be hosting several clinics in the days and weeks to come.
* On Sunday, Sept. 19, at 2 p.m., Kaci Landers will conduct a clinic on Advanced Fastpitch.[more]
Free to members, the cost is $15 for non-members.
The clinic is designed for the advanced pitcher. It will cover a variety of pitches used in fastpitch softball including the change up, rise ball, and drop ball pitches.
* Every Monday night from Sept. 13 through Oct. 25, fall ball workouts will be held at the Bryant Athletic Association fields. Rookie League players will work out from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Cal Ripken players will work out from 7 to 8 p.m.
Cost is $10 per session with no pre-registration required.
Those attending will receive instruction on fundamental skills from Devin Hurt and the staff at Diamond Sports. Two or three different skills will be covered each week. Players can come to one session or all seven.
* On Sunday, Oct. 10, at 2 p.m., Keith Horn will conduct a clinic for Off Season Maintenance for Baseball Pitchers.
Free to members, the cost is $15 for non-members.
Horn will discuss various exercises for off-season strengthening. The players will go home with plans for a 4 to 8 week conditioning program used by Coach Horn when he was a pitcher in the Cleveland Indians organization.
* On Wednesday nights from Oct. 6 through Nov. 17, a clinic will be held for Off-Season Instruction Ball. Sessions for players 8 to 11 years old will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Sessions for players 12-and-up will be from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Cost is $105 per player for all seven sessions. There is a six-player minimum per session.
Those attending will learn how to keep their baseball skills sharp during the off-season from Coach Pat Harrison and the staff of Diamond Sports. Different skills will be covered each week.
* Former Major League pitcher and college coach Geoff Zahn will return to Diamond Sports in November.
Zahn has been a pitching instructor for over 20 years and has worked with pitchers of all ages. He has authored several articles for MLB.com andCollegiate Baseball.
Zahn was a Major League pitcher for over 11 seasons with the Dodgers, Cubs, Twins, and Angels. He is also the former head baseball coach at the University of Michigan and the founder of the Master Pitching Institute and GeoffZahn.com.
Details about his clinic will be forthcoming.
* In addition, Diamond Sports has announced the arrival of a new instructor to its staff. Carl Martinous played college baseball for both Northeastern OklahomaA&M Junior College and UALR. He has been an assistant groundskeeper for the Arkansas Travelers, a volunteer coach at Little Rock Catholic, and held various administrative positions in the UALR Athletic Program.
In 2003, he became the Athletic Director and head baseball coach at St. Joseph Catholic School in Pine Bluff.
In 2006, Martinous started the Arkansas Baseball Academy, an organization that helps high school players find a place to play college ball. He joins the Diamond Sports staff as a hitting and infield/outfield instructor.
