MORRILTON — The arduous process of improvement continued for the Bryant Lady Hornets on Thursday night as they were ousted from the Morrilton Invitational Tournament by the Clarksville Lady Panthers, 58-43, on Thursday night.
Kalia Walker led Bryant with 14 points. Tierra Trotter and Ivory Russ added 10 each. Robyn Gordon had 4, Mady Scifres and India Atkins 2 and Celena Martin 1.
Clarkville established the lead in the first quarter, outscoring the Lady Hornets 17-10. It was 30-18 at the half. The Lady Hornets played them about evenly in the third quarter but they couldn’t make up ground.
“We had some defensive breakdowns,” acknowledged Lady Hornets coach Brad Matthews. “We lost their shooters and they made us pay.
“We will go back to practice tomorrow with the purpose of improving our execution on both sides of the floor,” he asserted.
Bryant, now 3-5, will host the rival Benton Lady Panthers in the annual Saline County Shootout on Tuesday.
