On Nov.1, an anonymous citizen of Saline County filed a complaint with the Arkansas Ethics Commission relating to expenditures that newly-elected mayor of Bryant Jill Dabbs allegedly made from her campaign to cover filing fees for lawsuits she has pursued during the campaign.[more]
Dabbs filed a lawsuit against the City of Bryant with three other citizens complaining about the City Council and current mayor Larry Mitchell in regards to the city's water and sewer rate increases set by ordinances that were passed in 2008.
"It appears that attorney Steve Smith was issued $185 on Sept. 7 to cover a filing fee from Jill Dabbs' campaign funds in order to pursue a lawsuit to have ‘Republican’ appear with her name on the ballot for mayor of Bryant," the complainant said in a statement to Bryantdaily.com. "It also appears that the Circuit Clerk of Saline County was issued $195 on Oct. 21 from campaign funds to cover court filing fee for a lawsuit against Bryant Mayor Larry Mitchell and the Bryant City Council in regards to an increase in water rates. This lawsuit included three co-petitioners in addition to Jill Dabbs. I have noticed inconsistencies in Ms. Dabb's campaign."
