Senior Tanner Caton shot a nine-hole round of 36 to earn individual medalist honors on Thursday in the final home match of the regular season for the Bryant High School golf team at Hurricane Country Club.
The Hornets combined on a team score of 169. Benton earned the team title at 156. Sheridan was third at 184.
With Maddie Stephens still sidelined with an injury, the Lady Hornets didn’t have enough to compete in the team match, which Benton won 151-156 over Sheridan. But senior Katie Edwards shot 51 and freshman Brooklyn Waller turned in a round of 62. Edwards was third overall. Benton’s Abbey Lee was medalist at 43 and Sheridan’s Jordan Olson carded a 47.
For the Hornets, Scott Schmidt turned in a 43 with Landon Allison finishing at 44. Drew Darbonne shot 46. Caleb Barnes shot a 50, Clayton Harbour carded a 54 with Neil Ritchie finishing at 59 while Bryan Collins and Alex McDonald each had rounds of 60.
Benton was led by Braden Smith at 37 and Brendan Little at 39.
“I’m very excited for our senior Tanner Caton finishing as medalist in his last home match,” said Bryant coach Steve Griffith.
“The Lady Hornets will play in the State tournament next Tuesday and Wednesday at North Hills in Sherwood,” he noted. “We are still hopeful that Maddie will be able to come back from her injury. If not, Katy and Brooklyn will compete as individuals.
“The Hornets will continue work next week, getting ready for their State at Centennial in Conway on Oct. 4-5.”
