LITTLE ROCK — Tristan Calhoun ran for a touchdown with two minutes left then threw to Brooks Ellis for a two-point conversion to help secure a 22-12 victory for the Bryant White Hornets eighth grade team of Bryant Middle School over the Horace Mann Bearcats of Little Rock at Quigley Stadium Tuesday night.
The win improved the Hornets to 4-1 on the season going into the annual Hornet Bowl against Bryant Blue of Bethel Middle School on Thursday, Oct. 17.
The clinching touchdown run was Calhoun’s second of the game. He also threw for a score. His first run for a score broke the ice in the first half, accounting for the Hornets’ 6-0 lead at the intermission.
In the third quarter, Keyshaun Davis hauled in a Calhoun pass that covered 35 yards for Bryant White’s second score. Calhoun ran in the conversion and it was 14-0.
Horace Mann got on the board and it was 14-6 going into the fourth quarter.
Twice during the second half, Calhoun and Aaron Griffin combined on pass completions that converted fourth-down situations. In the fourth quarter, the clinching drive concluded with Calhoun’s second TD run and the conversion pass to Ellis.
The Bearcats cut into the 22-6 lead with a touchdown as time expired.
