coach Rhonda Hall called Tuesday’s game one of the “best games of the year,” for her Bryant Blue Lady Hornets eighth grade team of Bethel Middle School. The Lady Hornets took the Cabot North Lady Panthers to overtime only to fall short at the end, 30-25.
The Bryant Blue team includes Annamarie Blair, Isabella Bluemmel, Julie Brazil, Nikki Clay, Haley Dellis, Brittany Kelley, Mercedes Dillard, Yessenia Gasper, Katelyn Giffin, Emily Henson, Allison Hughes, Jamie Jamison, Rylee Phillips, Sadie Powers, and Dominque West.
In a seventh grade game, Cabot North eked out a 13-11 win over the Bryant Blue girls.
The Bryant Blue seventh grade team includes Emma Barnes, Bailey Boyles, Whitney Brown, Sarah Bullington, Amber Burt, Megan Curry, Monica Guyett, Anna Lowery, Jordan McKnight, Racheal Miller, Kara Moser, Annie Patton, Peyton Ramsey, Britney Sahlmann, Kendall Selig, Lilly Smith, Ashlyn Taylor, Elizabeth Taylor, and Anna Turpin.[more]
The eighth-grade game was a thriller marked by Bluemmel’s 3-pointer with one second left in regulation to put the game into overtime.
“The girls were aggressive, worked hard and played with a lot of pride,” Hall stated. “I was really proud of their efforts.”Clay, the Lady Hornets’ point guard, paced the scoring with 9 points. She also had four steals.“Nikki had her best game of the season,” Hall noted.
Bluemmel finished with 6 points. Powers had 5 points and six steals while Johnson pitched in with 3 points and five rebounds. Phillips led the board work collecting 12 caroms to go with 2 points.
The Lady Hornets led 4-3 after a quarter but Cabot North came back to take a 12-10 lead at the half. It was 16-14 in favor of Bryant Blue going into the fourth quarter. Bluemmel’s trey at the buzzer knotted the game at 23 to send it into overtime.
In the seventh grade game, Bryant Blue trailed 8-4 at the half but held Cabot North scoreless in the third quarter to close within 8-7 going into the final period.
Lowery scored 5 for the Lady Hornets. Sahlmann added 4 and Taylor 2.
The teams are set to return to action on Monday against Bryant White at the Bryant Middle School gym. The seventh grade game starts the evening at 4:30.
