Nine teams are already registered for the Kansas City BBQ society sanctioned Bryant’s Buzzin’ BBQ Bash at Fall Fest on Saturday, Sept. 26 at Bishop Park, 6401 Boone Road.
“We are super excited to bring barbecue and craft beer to our festival,” said BBQ chairman Jeremiah Oltmans of Crye-Leike Realtors. “This will make a fun event even more appealing.
Arkansas Craft Distributors will be presenting craft beers from Oskar Blues and Summit breweries.
“Our local teams can sign up, cook and be judged by the crowd for the winning Backyard BBQ-er, too,” Oltmans added. “They are not required to be KCBS registered or follow all their requirements. It is all about having fun and gaining bragging rights.”
In the vein of local fun, the Bryant Fire Department and the Bryant Police Department will be barbecuing for a challenge to see which of those public safety departments is the “best.”
Total prizes available between the KCBS and the Backyard equal $8,000.
The public will pick the winner of the Backyard contest. For $5 individuals will get five votes for their favorite barbecue. To judge, they will get sample portions to taste.
Big Red (locally owned and operated), Saline Memorial Hospital and Whole Hog Café are presenters on the Backyard BBQ contest.
Other sponsors for the KCBS world-wide competition are ServiceMaster, Adams Pest Control, Baldwin and Shell Construction, McCauley Services and Crye-Leike Terri Summers.
The barbecue competition will take place in the parking lot by the Aquatic Center. The entry to the BBQ and Beer Garden will be $5.
All patrons who buy beer will have to show proof of age. No one under 21 allow to purchase beer.
