Whitney Butler and Lauren Boyer managed victories but the Bryant High School tennis team struggled with a tough Little Rock Central contingent at a dual match at Rebsamen Park tennis center Tuesday.
Butler, playing at No. 2 singles for the girls defeated Madison Shallhorn, 8-3. Boyer won her match against Nicole May, 9-7.[more]
At girls No. 1 singles, Central’s Lindley Liles beat Bryant’s Callie Hogancamp, 8-1. The boys top two singles matches were both 8-0 affairs as Central’s Austin Crawford prevailed of Bryant’s Kyle Nossaman and Dev Nair downed Cade Howard. In addition, Central’s Bob Zhar defeated Bryant’s Brandon Powell, 8-0.
In doubles play, Bryant’s Erica Pounders and Emma Patrick absorbed a 2-8 loss to Trinity Randolph and Darby Brandy while Autumn Rouse and Kristen Dudley were defeated by Central’s Shelby Stewart and Taylor Brazzell, 2-8. Also, Sara Lequieu and Amy Bucks fell 0-8 to Elizabeth Palmer and Ankita Day.
For the boys, Bryant’s Cody Higgins and Murphy Maynard lost to Central’s Matt Sherman and Chris Yeatman, 1-8, while Malik Flint and Nick Ross were defeated by Ian McKinney and Kiran Chakka, 0-8. Bryant’s Justin Travis and Dalton Lane also fell, 1-8, to Attishey Jain and Kent Strickland.
Bryant is set to close out the regular season on Thursday, Sept. 30, against North Little Rock at Burns Park. The conference tournament will be played Oct. 11-12 at Burns Park.
