Senior safety Brenden Young, the Bryant Hornets’ leading tackler in 2014, has been named to the East All-Star team for Friday night’s Arkansas High School Coaches Association All-Star game at Estes Stadium at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway.
Young took the place of teammate Drew Tipton who’s nursing a hamstring injury.
Set to continue his football career this fall at Ouachita Baptist University, Young finished the 2014 season with 88 tackles. He also broke up six passes and had an interception. This spring, he starred for the Central Conference champion Bryant track team as a hurdler and sprint relay member.
He’ll join teammate Cameron Davis, a two-time all-State offensive tackle, on the East squad. Davis signed to play this fall at Arkansas State University.
Tipton, who signed with ASU as a baseball player, was also invited to play in the AHSCA All-Star baseball game, dressed out but didn’t play in Tuesday’s all-Star doubleheader at Bear Stadium.
Bryant’s all-Star contingent also included Allison Hughes and Kierra Solinger in girls soccer, Landon Fincher and Skylar Jewett in cheerleading, and Danielle Mashburn, Jayme Rash and Lexi Summers in dance. Bryant dance coach Laura Wooten has served as an assistant coach on the East squad and Bryant athletic trainer Christa Finney was among those selected for the first official training staff for the week’s activities.
