Bruce Roberts, a senior at Bryant High School, is making
college plans as he continues to[more] compete for the National Merit Scholarship. Roberts was
recently named a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist for achieving high scores on the
PSAT.
“We are extremely proud of Bruce and his academic achievement,” stated BHS principal Jay Pickering. “This prestigious award is given only to the top students in the United States.”
Because of his National Merit Semifinalist selection, the University of Arkansas offered Roberts
a Chancellor’s Scholarship, worth $8,000 per year, totally $32,000.
While he is undecided on
which college he will attend, Roberts plans to major in computer science, primarily
programming.
He is a member of the BHS Quiz Bowl, Advanced Mixed Choir and team leader for the
Hornet Readers. He is the son of Bud and Katie Roberts.
“This award opens doors of opportunity for Bruce,” said BHS counselor Donna Elmore. “He is a brilliant student, very deserving of this honor.”
Elmore is assisting Roberts with the extensive application process for the National Merit Scholarship, which will be announced in January.
