ROGERS — Bryant Lady Hornets’ Hannah Raney and Melinda Murdock represented[more] Saline County in the 18th annual Arkansas/Oklahoma All Star cross country meet held Saturday, Nov 12. Both ladies came home with champion’s medals as the Arkansas girls put six runners in the top 10 to win the team competition 74-97 over the Oklahoma All-Stars.
Including a team champion medal, Raney also received one of the top 25 individual medals with her 19th place finish in a time of 20:04.
“The conditions definitely were not ideal for running with wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour during the race,” noted Lady Hornets coach Danny Westbrook, who served, along with Hornets coach Steve Oury, as two of the three coaches for the Arkansas teams. “But Hannah and Melinda battled the conditions and actually ran the fastest first mile they have all year.
“With the Arkansas team win, this was a great way for both of them to cap off an outstanding cross country season,” he added.
The meet is held the week after the State meet each year and pits the top 25 runners from Arkansas and Oklahoma in a duel head-to-head competition.
In the boy’s race, the Oklahoma took the team title 70-109 over Arkansas.
