Eydie Abercrombie, P.A.P.H.S, became the first recipient of the David M. Buchner Award for Outstanding Service in Physical Activity and Public Health at a ceremony held on Thursday, May 14, She was honored for her “extraordinary leadership and dedication” in the development of the American College of Sports Medicine and the National Society of Physical Activity Practitioners in Public Health’s “Physical Activity in Public Health Specialist” (P.A.P.H.S.) certification.
The P.A.P.H.S. certification is a milestone achievement for the field of physical activity and public health, as it establishes professional competencies and prescribes the high level of knowledge, skills, and abilities needed by physical activity practitioners in public health.
Abercrombie, who lives in Bryant, is the Saline County Local Health Unit Administrator and the former voting member from Arkansas.
