CONWAY — The Bryant White Lady Hornets seventh grade volleyball team of Bryant Middle School won three of four matches over teams from a pair of Conway Middle Schools to open the 2013 season on Tuesday.
The Bryant White A team defeated Conway Carl Stuart, 25-14, 25-23, then beat Conway Simon, 25-11, 25-15. The Lady Hornets B team lost 18-25, 15-20 to Carl Stuart but bounced back to win over Conway Simon, 25-21, 25-19.
“I’m very proud of this group,” said Bryant White coach DeAnna Ward. “It was a hard game to open the season with. The gym was packed. It was loud and very hot with no air conditioning.
“We were a little shell-shocked the first game but quickly settled down and played great,” she noted. “It was a lot of volleyball for one night. I think playing in the showcase on Saturday helped.
“We had a lot of girls that really contributed,” the coach stated. “In the A games, Imanii Jones led us with 17 of 18 good serves. Plus, Megan Chism had 17 of 20. In the B games, Kalia Walker led the team with 12 of 14 good serves while Jade Ma contributed 10 of 13. It’s always a good night when seventh graders can serve that consistently.”
The Bryant White seventh grade team returns to action on Sept. 10 at the Anthony School. The eighth grade team is set to travel to play Conway Blue on Tuesday, Sept. 3.
