JACKSONVILLE — The Bryant White Hornets seventh grade basketball team of Bryant Middle School outscored the Lighthouse Charter School Wolves 24-9 in the second half to run away with a 40-16 meeting between the two teams Tuesday night.
Blaise Smith scored 14 points and Kajuan Robinson added 9 to pace the Hornets’ effort as they improved to 3-0 on the season going into a jamboree this Saturday at the Bryant Middle School gym.
Patrick Dickinson added 4 points and Ryan Lessenberry had 3.
“We were a little rusty since we were out of school for a few days,” noted Hornets coach Heath Long. “We did a lot of good things but we will need to execute better going forward.”
The Hornets built a 9-0 lead by the end of the first quarter but Lighthouse played them even in the second period. It was 16-7 going into the intermission. The Hornets took control in the third quarter. It was 30-11 going into the final stanza.
“Overall, we did a good job and I am impressed with our team’s unselfish play,” said Long.
