LITTLE ROCK — The Bryant White Hornets eighth grade basketball team made a successful 2012-13 season debut[more] Monday night with a 52-38 win over the Little Rock Episcopal Wildcats in the first round of a tournament at The Anthony School.
The win sets up a game between Bryant White and Bryant Blue in the second round today at 4:30 p.m. The two Bryant eighth grade girls teams will tangle at 5:30.
Romen Martin scored 19 points and John Winston 10 to lead Bryant White to victory on Monday.
The Hornets built an 11-6 lead by the end of the first quarter and expanded that to 22-15 by halftime. A 19-point third quarter put the game away. It was 41-26 going into the final period.
“I felt like our pressure took it's toll as the game went along,” commented Hornets coach Heath Long. “We struggled a little bit on offense, until we started getting the ball inside against their spread out zone. It was a team effort, and we will need the same against Bethel.”
