BENTON — The Bryant White Lady Hornets eighth grade volleyball team of Bryant Middle School had what head coach DeAnna Ward called,[more] “Overall, just a great night,” when they defeated the rival Benton Lady Panthers eighth grade team on Thursday, Sept. 15.
Opening with a nail-biter in which they prevailed 26-24, the Lady Hornets eased to a 25-13 win in game two to earn the sweep.
“We started off strong and just kept getting better,” Ward said. “We finally got aggressive at the net. The girls were talking, moving and playing their position. I was very pleased.”
In the first set, Lara White served for five points in a run that included two aces. Miranda Mayfield also served up an ace.
“Savannah Shelton came in and served points 24 to 26 under pressure,” Ward noted. “Faith Brown had an excellent block.”
Skylar Davis contributed two assists, Shayla McKissock had one as did Shelton. Julianna Ward led with three kills. Sierra Jones and White each had one.
In the second set, Jones served for points 8 through 15 with an ace along the way. White also served for an ace. Julianne Ward served for points 21 and 22 then Reagan Smith closed it out with points 24 and 25. Ward and White each had two kills and Jones one. Davis and McKissock came through with an assist apiece.
The Lady Hornets are scheduled to play again at Cabot South on Thursday, Sept. 22.
