LITTLE ROCK — The Bryant White Lady Hornets eighth grade team of Bryant Middle School rolled out to a 15-0 lead in the first quarter on the way to a 35-20 win over Episcopal Collegiate on Tuesday night.
And the Bryant White seventh grade girls triumphed as well, allowing just 2 points in the first half on their way to a 16-11 victory.[more]
In the eighth grade team, Kaitilyn Greer and Katie Whitworth led the team with 6 points each. Destin Nichols, Melinda Murdock, Katy Stillman and Becka Shaddon added 4 apiece. Alex Wright had 3, Taylor Matthews and Jaden Redlich 2 each.
“It was a good night for us,” said Lady Hornets coach DeAnna Ward. “Our press was effective and our post players did a great job of hitting the boards. Everyone got to play.”
Murdock led the team with five steals. Courtney Bulthuis, Nichols and Shaddon each had 3. On the boards, Whitworth hauled down 11, Wright 7 and Greer 6.
The Lady Hornets led 18-5 at the half, 24-14 going into the fourth quarter.
Everyone got to play in the seventh grade game too. Destiny Huffman and Katie Davidson each finished with 6 points. Jayla Anderson added 4.
Davidson swept the boards for 12 caroms. Taylor Lindberg had 4 while Huffman and Anderson contributed defensively with four steals apiece.
Bryant led 4-0 at the end of the first quarter then 12-2 at the half. It was 14-5 going into the fourth quarter.
The Bryant White seventh grade teams are scheduled to play again on Tuesday, Jan. 19, at Cabot South. The eighth grade girls’ next outing is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 28, at Lake Hamilton.
