The Bryant White Lady Hornets eighth grade team of Bryant Middle School completed an undefeated season by eking out a 34-33 win over the Cabot Red Lady Panthers at Bryant Middle School gym on Monday night.
In fact, the team is 28-0 over the last two seasons after going unbeaten in seventh grade as well.
Celena Martin scored 15 points, all in the second half, to fuel the comeback. Ivory Russ finished with 8 points, Tierra Trotter 4, Sierra Trotter 3 and Kinley Oholendt and Madalynn Thompson 2 each.
“We had to battle through a lot of adversity, with injuries and illnesses causing us to be a little depleted,” said Lady Hornets coach Kenny Hays. “But our team found a way to rally and come from behind late in the fourth quarter by turning up our defensive and offensive pressure to secure the victory.
“I am proud of the way our team kept their composure down the stretch making big plays on both ends of the floor,” he added. “These girls can be proud of their accomplishments over the past two seasons and look forward to continued successes in the future. I thank the Lord for blessing me with the opportunity to coach them.”
The game was the closest of the season for the Lady Hornets who finished 16-0. The next closest call were 7-point wins at Russellville and at home against Conway Blue.
