BENTON — The Bryant White Lady Hornets eighth grade team of Bryant Middle School held off a fourth quarter comeback by the Benton eighth grade girls to extract a 20-17 win on Thursday night.
Katy Stillman led the Lady Hornets with 6 points. Melinda Murdock and Destin Nichols added 4 each. Murdock was 4 of 6 from the free-throw line. Kaitlyn Greer, Alex Wright and Becka Shaddon pitched in with 2 points apiece.[more]
Nichols contributed three assists while Greer had four steals. Wright hauled down 10 rebounds and Katie Whitworth six. Brittany Privett, Murdock and Greer collected five each.
“We have been focusing on rebounding in practice and it really showed,” noted Lady Hornets coach DeAnna Ward. “It was a nice all-around effort by all of the girls.”
Bryant established an 8-5 lead by the end of the third quarter and led 13-9 at the half. By holding Benton to just 2 points in the third quarter, the Lady Hornets were able to extend the lead to 18-11 going into the fourth period.
The next outing for Bryant White will be Thursday, Dec. 17, when they host Rose City.
