CONWAY — There are a pair of Conway White Lady Kittens eighth grade players that star on their freshman team. So, you can imagine how they might[more] wreak havoc on the opposing eighth grade teams.
On Monday night, the Bryant White Lady Hornets eighth grade team of Bryant Middle School shared in that experience in a 36-18 loss at Buzz Bolding Arena.
The Bryant White girls include Jayla Anderson, Lindsey Butler, Mallory Curry, Katie Davidson, Jerrica Gray, Haley Holliman, Destiny Huffman, Colleen Johnson, Miranda Lawrence, Taylor Lindberg, Makayla Nguyen, Alexis Parsely, Briana Rutherford, Sarah Shepard and Abby Staton.
The Lady Hornets were within 4-2 after a basket by Lindberg midway through the first quarter but Conway scored the next 6 points to gain the upper hand.
Lindberg, who scored 11 of her team’s points, hit a layup off a nice feed from Staton to make it 10-4 but from that point to the end of the half, the Lady Kittens outscored Bryant White 10-1, making it 20-5 at the half.
Conway hit a 3 to start the second half then Huffman and Lindberg had back-to-back baskets for the Lady Hornets. When Staton and Lindberg added to the run, the lead was whittled down to 23-15.
But that’s as close as the Lady Hornets could get as Conway put together another surge to put the game out of reach. Late in the game, Nguyen hit a free throw and Curry added a basket for Bryant.
The Lady Hornets are set to return to action at home on Thursday against Cabot South.
