CABOT — Hunter Holder hit two free throws with :04 left and the Bryant White Hornets eighth grade team of Bryant Middle School captured the championship of the Cabot North Tournament with a 35-31 victory over Sheridan on Saturday, Nov. 21.
Holder’s tosses came after a Sheridan technical foul which followed a shooting foul that sent Mitch Scoggins to the line. Though Scoggins, who was the Hornets’ top scorer with 17 points, couldn’t get his free throws to fall and the score remained tied at 31, Holder connected and, on the subsequent inbounds play, the Hornets beat the buzzer with a bucket to set the final score.[more]
Greyson Giles added 9 points for the Hornets who trailed 9-7 after a quarter, led 18-17 at the half and 25-23 going into the fourth quarter.
“We did a good job of being aggressive and attacking the basket,” stated Hornets coach Heath Long. “We made as many free throws as they attempted, which is always a good statistic.
“I also liked the defensive effort,” he added. I felt like we played hard on every single possession, which is extremely important in a close game like this one.”
Bryant White is scheduled to return to action at Bryant Blue on Tuesday at Bethel Middle School.
