CONWAY — The Bryant White Lady Hornets and the Conway Carl Stuart Lady Wampus Kittens took[more] turns causing havoc with their defense against each other Thursday night at Buzz Bolding Arena. But the Lady Hornets broke through often enough in the second half to build a lead and eventually prevail 18-9.
The Lady Kittens held a 5-2 lead early but a basket by Julie Ward, who scored the Lady Hornets’ first 2 points, and a free throw by Skylar Davis had Bryant White even by halftime.
Conway then was unable to score until a free throw with 1:57 left in the game such was Bryant’s smothering defense.
By then, the Lady Hornets had built a 15-5 advantage.
Lara White broke the 5-5 tie to start the third quarter, continuing what turned into a 16-1 run for Bryant White. Davis hit a layup off a turnover then added a free throw off a turnover to make it 9-5 going into the fourth quarter.
White’s 12-foot jumper started the fourth quarter scoring. Davis hit another layup then made a quick steal and another bucket to make it 15-5.
After a timeout, Conway White got to the free-throw line and ended its long dry spell but a layup by Shayla McKissock and a free throw by Ward completed the run, making it 18-6 with :31.6 left to play.
Conway’s lone field goal of the second half came with :19 left in the game.
Davis finished with 7 points, Ward 5, White 4 and McKissock 2.
The schedule has the Lady Hornets, now 4-1, traveling back to Conway on Tuesday, Dec. 6.
