It took just a little under a year for the Bryant Aquatics Swim School (BASS) to make their[more] presence known in the Arkansas swim community. Over the weekend, the BASS ended the reign of six-time defending champion HealthWorks Hurricanes of El Dorado for Bryant’s first-ever championship.
The BASS, established in September of 2012, won the meet by over 400 points with four swimmers winning the prestigious High Point honors at the meet: Shelby Bratton, 8-year-old girls; Parker Nelson, 10-year-old boys; Lydia Huthmaker, 12-year-old girls; and Garrett Sullivan, 15-18 year-old boys.
Hosted by Bishop Park Aquatics Center, the meet was comprised of 12 teams featuring 240 swimmers from all over the state competing Friday, June 28 through Sunday, June 30. The top eight team results were:
1) Bryant Aquatics Swim School (BASS) 2,012.50
2) HealthWorks Hurricanes 1,548
3) Shark ATAC 470
4) Pocahontas Aquatic Club 279
5) Warren Waves 274
6) Mountain Home Hurricanes 226.50
7) Heber Springs Swim Club Gators 201
8) Blytheville Barracudas 87
“I’m very proud of all of our swimmers”, said Onat Tungac, BASS coordinator. “We could not have done this without the hard work of our head Instructors Jim Norman and Michael McCabe, as well as the parents and volunteers who gave so much to this program.”
