Eighth grade student Hayden Henson of Bryant won first place for the second year in a row at the[more] Chess for Arkansas Schools Chess Tournament. Henson has played chess since the sixth grade, and has developed an enthusiasm for the game.
“I have been receiving help from many people,” he said. “I have been helped by my step-dad and have been taking lessons from a man named Tony Davis, a former Arkansas State Champion, and many more people.”
Henson played five rounds in the tournament and remained undefeated with each match being an hour and 30 minutes long.
“I will also be playing in the K-12 Nationals in Dallas, Texas in the eighth grade division on Nov. 18-20,” he noted. “This will be my first national level tournament.”
