Bryant revenue office debuts self-service kiosks

Visitors to the Benton and Bryant Revenue Offices can renew their vehicle registration and leave with new license plate tags in less than four minutes by using one of two new self-service iPad kiosks. These familiar touch-screen devices enable eligible drivers to significantly reduce their wait time and save a couple dollars in the process.

“We are pleased to offer Saline County residents who come to the Revenue Office a much faster way to renew their vehicle registration in person,” Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) State Revenue Office Administrator Marla McHughes said. “This is just one way we are shortening wait times and using technology consumers know and love to provide better service to our drivers.”

Rather than procuring an industrial kiosk solution, DFA and eGovernment partner Information Network of Arkansas (INA) bought refurbished iPads, optimized the online vehicle registration renewal system ARSTAR.com for tablet display and locked the devices inside hardened shells with secure credit card swipes to reduce data entry. The kiosks are mounted to Revenue Office service counters where a designated support agent is able to monitor use, help drivers and immediately print new license plate stickers.

Self-service kiosks are in use at 12 other revenue offices throughout the state. DFA piloted kiosks at the Ragland Building Revenue Office in Little Rock last July. After a successful launch, the agency strategically rolled out kiosks to other high-traffic offices. Nearly 50 percent of all drivers who visit revenue offices to renew their registration use the kiosks.

“It’s no surprise that drivers love using these kiosks and are thrilled to be in and out of the Revenue Office in a matter of minutes with their license plate decals,” McHughes said. “This is also an effective way to let drivers know they can renew online next year without having to come see us in person.”

Arkansas drivers in any county can visit ARSTAR.com to renew their vehicle registration online from any computer or mobile device. The online renewal site also provides a digital reminder service that sends drivers an email with an online payment link when their vehicle registration is due for renewal. Drivers can also go to www.getgov2go.com to sign up for Gov2Go – a new app that tracks assessment, property tax payment and vehicle registration deadlines and enables users to complete all these tasks in the app when possible.

Like the online renewal process, drivers may only use the self-service kiosks if they are current in assessment, property taxes and car insurance. There is no additional fee for using the kiosk or ARSTAR.com to renew with a credit card.
