PEARCY — The Bryant Lady Hornets sent just four athletes to the Lake Hamilton Invitational Friday night and[more] scored a stunning 60 points, which garnered a fourth place finish out of 18 teams at the meet.
Head Coach Danny Westbrook took the four to try to automatically qualify for the State meet since the meet was a qualifying meet. The Lady Hornets who competed were coming off only one night’s rest, having won the team title at the Conway Invitational on Thursday night.
Amazingly, junior Alexis Royal continued her streak of winning high point awards by taking first place in three of the four events she entered. Royal scored 38 points by taking first in the long jump (17’6”), triple jump (36’11”), and the 100-meter dash (12.4). She finished third in the 200-meter dash in 26.3.
Her triple jump set a new Lake Hamilton meet record and her 100-meter dash time was under the state qualifying time.
Hannah Raney won the 3200-meter run with a time of 11:53.3.
Melinda Murdock took second in the 800-meter run (2:24.3) as did Lauren Magneson in the high jump (5’0”).
“To score 60 points with only four girls was a surprise,” Westbrook admitted. “Alexis made it five meets in a row that she has won the female high point award. I was especially proud of Hannah and Melinda. They were very close to the qualifying time but came up just short. They both had outstanding performances in those distance races, coming off of very little rest from a meet the night before.”
