PEARCY — Landon Pickett, Marcus Wilson and Jordan Taylor combined on a two-hitter as the Bryant Hornets junior varsity claimed a 7-1 win over the Lake Hamilton JV on Saturday afternoon.
Tyler Nelson and Hayden Lessenberry each had two hits as eight different Bryant players had hits in the game.[more]
The Hornets took a 2-0 lead in the first. Hayden Daniel walked, Nelson singled to left and Dylan Pritchett singled in the first run. Pickett was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Cameron Price’s grounder to third resulted in a force at the plate but when Lucas Castleberry followed with another grounder to third, the only out Lake Hamilton could get was a force at third as Pritchett scored to make it 2-0.
In the bottom of the inning, Jon Michael Lipton doubled for Lake Hamilton but that was the only hit Pickett gave up in three innings of work. He walked a batter but, after a sacrifice, he struck out the clean-up hitter and ended the inning with a fly to right.
The only other baserunner Pickett allowed was a lead-off walk in the third. He fanned three.
In the second inning, Lessenberry singled. Wilson came on as a courtesy runner and took second on Josh Pultro’s groundout. Evan Jobe singled and Daniel walked again to load the bases for Nelson, who sliced a single to left to make it 4-0. Pritchett walked to force in Jobe then Pickett greeted a new hurler with a gapper to right-center that would’ve plated more than the one run that counted in the three-run limited inning.
In the third, Price walked and raced to third on an errant pickoff throw. Castleberry brought him home with a sacrifice fly. Dylan Cross singled sharply to center and Wilson came on to run, swiping second. After Lessenberry walked Pultro beat out an infield hit to load the bags. Wilson then scored when Jobe reached on an error, making it 7-0.
Lake Hamilton scored its only run in the fourth on a walk, a passed ball and an RBI double by Tyler Thomas. Dre Bennett drew a walk but the next batter bounced to Castleberry at third. He quickly got a force at third and threw to second for a doubleplay. After another pair of walks loaded the bases, Wilson got the final out on another grounder to Castleberry.
Taylor worked a 1-2-3 fifth to end the game.
