Fresh from their win in the Silver bracket of a tournament in Benton, the Bryant White Lady Hornets eighth grade volleyball team won a hard-fought showdown with their future teammates on the rival Bryant Blue Lady Hornets team of Bethel Middle School on Tuesday night, 18-25, 25-16, 15-9.
In a seventh grade game, White won 25-10, 25-18. Bethel prevailed in a seventh grade B game, 25-11, 25-12.
Bryant White hosts North Little Rock on Thursday, Oct. 1. Bryant Blue plays next at Conway Blue on Monday, Oct. 5.
“They have really been coming together and starting to trust each other to do their job,” said Bryant White coach DeAnna Ward of her eighth grade players. “When they communicate, they are hard to beat. I think having success winning the Silver bracket at the Benton tournament this weekend was a real turning point for our team. I am so proud of them.
“Kortnie Suggs had a great night 18/19 from the service line with four aces,” she noted. “Lylah Washington was 8/10 for the night and came through at crunch time serving points 1-5 and two aces in the third set to get the lead early, she also had two kills.
“Grace Camferdam was 12/14 for the night and served points 10-15 in the third set for a strong finish,” the coach related. “Grace also had three aces and four kills. Ivory Russ played through the pain of an injured hand and was still able to get two blocks, six tips and a kill. Celena Martin and Hannah Work were both 100 percent serving. Celena also had two kills and a tip. Lexi Brown was 5/7 with three aces and 10 assists.”
In the seventh grade A game, Ward said that Jaiyah Jackson was 11 of 13 from the serving line, Ashlynn Oyemola was eight of 9 serving and Madelyn Hoskins was good for 6 of 8, “with a nice jump serve.”
In the seventh grade B game, Louise Hobby was good on 14 of 15 serves.
