NORTH LITTLE ROCK — The Bryant Lady Hornet swim team captured top honors in the fourth-team girls competition and the Hornets took second in the five-team boys competition at the season-opening North Little Rock Invitational swim meet on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
The Lady Hornets garnered 471 points to North Little Rock’s 406, winning in six different events.
The Hornets finished with 361 points with first-place finishes in three events to North Little Rock’s 637 points.[more]
Freshman Jinson Kang burst onto the scene with wins in two events for the girls. She took top honors in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:20.63 and the 100 butterfly in 1:03.08.
Senior Justin Tazelaar picked up where she left off last season with wins in the 100 free in 1:00.10 and the 100 backstroke (1:05.70). She also led the Lady Hornets’ winning 200 medley relay team, joining Jordan Martin, Kang and Amanda Butler for a time of 2:10.63.
In addition, Jordan Martin, a sophomore, finished first in the 500 free (6:25.70).
For the boys, junior Jordan Combs captured the 500 free in 6:05.71 while junior Dylan Machycek won the 100 free in 58.77. Sophomore Dylan Rogers added a first-place finish in the 100 butterfly (1:10.36).
The Lady Hornet swim team also garnered points in the 200 free when Martin finished second (2:21.83) and freshman Mollie Robinson took third (2:46.12). Robinson was also third in the 500 free (7:14.67).
Along with Kang in the 200 IM, senior Megan Matthew took third in 3:05.08. She was also fourth in the 500 free (7:25.20).
And, joining Kang in the 100 fly, junior Erin Moser was third (1:4.34) and freshman Whitney Meyer was fourth (1:23.15).
Tazelaar was joined in the 100 free by freshman Amanda Butler who was second in 1:11.61, and sophomore Charlie Hunnicutt who was fifth in 1:21.99. Along with Tazelaar in the 100 back, Meyer took second in 1:21.01.
Four Lady Hornets picked up points in the 50 free led by Moser who was fourth in 29.49. Butler finished sixth in 31.65 with sophomore Katie Smith eighth (32.57) and freshman Skylar Combs 11th (39.39).
Smith was also fourth in the 100 breast stroke with a time of 1:37.89 with Combs fifth in 1:42.86.
For the boys, Machycek was joined by freshman Brent Heil in the 100 free, finishing in a time of 1:12.02.
Ronald Matt Evans was third behind Combs in the 500 free, finishing in a time of 7:18.64.
Combs picked up second-place points in the 200 free (2:11.82), with Evans fifth (2:38.33) and sophomore Cory Campbell sixth (3:03.65).
Machycek added a second-place finish in the 50 free (25.63) with Rogers seventh (27.44) and freshman Casey Ball 13th in 28.71.
The Hornets picked up second-place points from sophomore Andrew Dull in the 100 back (1:09.61). Ball was fifth (1:22.37) and Campbell ninth (1:38.72).
Kyle Douglas, a senior, finished third in the 200 IM (2:33.71) and a fourth n the 100 breast (1:19.89). In the former race, Dull was fourth in 2:34.96. In the latter, Heil was sixth in 1:22.77.
In other relay results, Bryant’s girls not only won the 200 medley, their B team was third with Matthew, Smith, Moser and Meyer posting a 2:21.27 clocking.
In the 200 freestyle relay, the team of Tazelaar, Martin, Moser and Kang finished second in 1:53.43 with the B team of Smith, Combs, Hunnicutt and Robinson third in 2:24.97.
For the boys, the quartet of Dull, Heil, Machycek and Combs turned in a time of 2:04.13 to take second in the 200 medley. In the 200 free, Rogers, Heil, Douglas and Machycek finished in 1:48.12 to place second. Dull, Douglas, Rogers and Combs combined for a second-place finish in the 400 free relay, clocking in at 4:05.17.
