CONWAY —Bryant High School FCCLA was a top ranking school and took home several awards at the State FCCLA meeting, which was held Wednesday, April 1, at the University of Central Arkansas.
National Program- Leadership Service
According to BHS FCCLA sponsor Heather Hall, the chapter did a long term project based off of Jenna Freeman’s “Speak for the Unspoken.” Attention was drawn to special-needs students and their need to become more involved and accepted into the student body. The hashtag #voteforkacey, was supported by FCCLA during Homecoming week in October. Kacey is a special-needs student that made Homecoming court thanks to so many students taking action on her benefit.
National Program – Power of One
“This was an individual project for members to complete and be recognized at the State level in Conway and the national level in Washington D.C., this summer,” Hall explained. “Members had to set a goal, take action, and evaluate their results in each of the following categories: A Better You, Family Ties, Working on Working, Take the Lead, and Speak Out for FCCLA.”
Each of these students were awarded:
Jacob Edwards, Jenna Freeman, Hunter Fugitt, Lauren Fuller, Haley Killgore, Raphael McCuien, Anna Claire Morgan, Anna Owens, Sadie Powers, Aspen Reynolds and Connor Tatum.
National Competitor Award
Freeman was recognized as the gold winner of STAR events in the Teach and Train competition. She will compete in Washington D.C., this summer.
Gold Star Chapter
The criteria for the Gold Star Chapter award was based on attendance to district and state meetings, recruiting new members, meeting deadlines, STAR events competition, and individual projects. Only 22 schools received the award.
SOAR Award – Stand Out Arkansas
Bryant High School completed a community service project at the district, state, and national level. Over 250 chapters of FCCLA are in Arkansas and only 16 schools received the SOAR award.
“Bryant High School has a strong FCCLA chapter and we appreciate all the support we receive,” said Hall. “We wouldn’t be as successful as we are without the support of the school board, FCCLA parents, teachers, and the high school administration with special thanks to Dr. Jay Pickering, Mrs. Leah Garner, and Mrs. Evelyn Butler.”
