GREENWOOD — In an epic battle, the Bryant Lady Hornets and Greenwood Lady Bulldogs battled beyond the usual 25 points in three of their four games Thursday night in the first 7A/6A-Central Conference match of the 2014 season.
The opening game went into the 30’s before the home team extracted a 32-30 win. The effort spent and the disappointment fresh, the Lady Hornets lost game two 13-25, but they dug down in the third game to stay alive, eking out a 27-25 win in a gritty contest. Game four went to the limit and beyond as well before Greenwood escaped 29-27.
“The girls played their hearts out,” said Bryant coach Lawrence Jefferson. “Each game could have gone either way with both teams having opportunities to win the set. I was proud of the effort and enthusiasm the girls showed. Nikki Clay, Abby Staton, and Whitney Brown really stepped up tonight with their passing.”
Allie Anderson came through with 17 kills. Britney Sahlmann finished with 30 assists.
The Lady Hornets are set to play in the annual Little Rock Spikefest on Saturday.
