TEXARKANA — The Texarkana Lady Razorbacks never really threatened to score and five[more] different Bryant Lady Hornets knocked through goals in a 6-0 win at Razorback Stadium on Tuesday night.
The Lady Hornets have now recorded shutouts in seven of their nine wins and, through regulation, in their lone loss (a shootout with Rogers back on March 2). They’re 9-1-1 overall and they’ve won six matches in a row. The win over Texarkana improved them to 3-0 in the South Conference going into a non-league game at home against Cabot on Thursday. They return to conference play Friday against Lake Hamilton.
Bryant surged to a 5-0 lead by halftime. Kara Taylor got the first goal off a feed from Bailey Gartrell less than 10 minutes into the contest. Gartrell assisted on the second goal as well, which was drilled by her elder sister, Shelby Gartrell.
In turn, Shelby assisted on the first of Lexie Balisterri’s two goals. The second came off a penalty kick in the final minutes of the half. In between, Balisterri picked up an assist on Jacie McMahan’s goal.
The lone goal of the second half was scored by Bailey Gartrell on another assist from Shelby Gartrell.
“The girls played better than they did on Friday (in a 7-1 win over Sheridan),” stated Bryant coach Julie Long. “My defense deserves a lot of credit because (Texarkana) never got the ball inside the 40-yard line. My keeper didn’t touch the ball all night.”
