CONWAY — The Bryant Hornets freshman track team appears to be ready for the Central Arkansas Junior High Conference championship meet after they amassed 134 points to win the final regular-season meet on Thursday.
Conway Blue was second with 91 points at the Wampus Kitten Relays. Conway White was third in the eight-team field with 71.
The Hornets picked up a pair of first-place finishes from Chris Barrientos, another by Randy Thomas and a third in the 4×400-meter relay.
Barrientos led a contingent of Bryant runners in both distance races. In the 1600-meter run, the Hornets swept the top three places with Barrientos first in 4:47.95, Chris Morgan second in 5:07.52 and Matthew O’Gary third in 5:08.15. In the 800, Barrientos’ winning time was 2:12.35. Conway White’s Craig Craun broke up Bryant’s sweep by finishing second in 2:18.23. Morgan was third in 2:21.39 with Joshua Nelson fourth in 2:22.10.
Thomas won the high jump, clearing 5’8” in fewer attempts than Tommy Oaks of Cabot North. He also joined Andrew Hayes, Josh Robinson and Hunter Ulmer on the 4×400 relay team, which won in 3:46.78. North Little Rock was second with a time of 3:47.92.
Thomas scored in the sprints for Bryant as well. In the 200, his 23.36 was second only to Conway Blue’s Sean Jamerson who won in 23.32. Robinson was fourth in 24.26. In the 100, Thomas was third in 11.82 with Robinson seventh in 12.08. Luke Bailey of Conway White won with a time of 11.67.
Malek Holman added points in the triple jump and long jump. His distance of 37’7” was second only to the 41’9” turned in by Conway Blue’s Carey McClain. Hayes was third at 37’5”. In the long jump, Holman leapt 18’1.5” to place fourth.
Bryant’s 4×800 relay team of Jake Dreher, Ben Sellers, Isaac Silos and Kevin Weng earned a second-place finish in a time of 9:24.83. Cabot South won in 9:22.35.
Sam Perryman placed third in the 300 hurdles and the pole vault for the Hornets. He finished the hurdles in 44.75, just off the pace of Tyler George of Cabot South at 42.99. In the pole vault, Perryman cleared 9’6”.
Ulmer and Hayes each placed in the 400-meter run. Ulmer was third in 56.13 with Hayes seventh in 57.31. Hayes was also eighth in the 110 hurdles, turning in a time of 17.58.
The Hornets run at the CAJHC meet on Thursday, April 21, at Lake Hamilton.
