C0NWAY — Kalina Weaver served up eight straight points, Truli Bates made a key block for a point then Grace Sams came through with a match-ending kill as the Bryant Lady Hornets freshman team captured an impressive road win, 25-19, 25-21, over the Conway Blue Lady Cats Thursday night.
“Our girls played really well tonight,” stated Bryant coach Lawrence Jefferson. “We had a few errors in the second set on their serve. They were serving really good. But we called a timeout and got them back together, broke serve then Kalina Weaver went on her roll.”
The Lady Hornets were down 14-20 when Weaver rotated to the serving line.
“Truli Bates got a big block to put us up 24-21 then Grace had a good kill to finish the match,” Jefferson commented.
“We played really well in the first set,” he added. “I think we only had three service errors for the match. That’s really good. I was really pleased with the effort. Our errors were down a lot on kills. We did a really good job tonight. I was proud of them.
“Our bench was phenomenal tonight,” the coach asserted.
Lexi Brown had a strong run at the service line in the first set. For the match, Weaver had two aces and was good on 12 of her 13 serves. Brown and Sams also had aces. Brown was good on 8 of her 9 serves and Ashley Davis got in all seven of her attempts.
At the net, Cali Rogers led with five kills in five attempts. Sams had four kills, Bates two to go with her two blocks. Casey Welch and Grace Camferdam finished with a kill apiece.
On defense, Erin Thompson had six digs. Brown and Sams contributed five each and Kiarra Beard had two.
Bryant’s freshman girls return to action for another tough road match when they travel to Mount St. Mary Academy in Little Rock on Tuesday, Sept. 6.
