BENTON — The Central Arkansas Junior High Conference post-season tournament is[more] under way at Benton High School Arena and the Bryant freshman teams take the court this afternoon.
Both teams will be trying to advance past an opponent they have defeated twice before during the regular season. The Hornets come in as the No. 2 seed on the boys side after tying Conway White for the regular-season championship. They’ll play against seventh-seeded Little Rock Catholic at 5:30 this afternoon. The Lady Hornets, seeded No. 4 after tying North Little Rock and Benton for fourth during the regular season, will take on North Little Rock, which wound up the fifth seed on points, at 4 p.m.
The Bryant boys defeated Catholic 44-27 on Dec. 13 then 49-33 on Feb. 3.
The Lady Hornets edged North Little Rock, 37-32, in overtime on Dec. 9 then 34-25 on Jan. 31.
The tournament is a single elimination event. With a win, the Hornets will advance to play on Monday at 5 p.m., against the winner of the North Little Rock vs. Lake Hamilton opening round game. If the Lady Hornets are successful today, they’ll play again on Monday at 6:30 p.m., against the survivor of today’s opening round game between Conway White and either Cabot North or Cabot South. (The Cabot teams played in a play-in game this morning in Cabot.)
