The Bryant Hornets B team won three games to capture the championship of a junior varsity round-robin tournament held at Bauxite on Saturday afternoon.
The Hornets defeated Bauxite’s JV, 15-1, then knocked off the JV team for Little Rock Mills, 10-0, before meeting Benton in the final and winning 8-4.[more]
Coach Frank Fisher touted the play of Ozzie Hurt, Daniel Richards, Trent Rivers and Cody Gogus in the tournament. He also said that all three catchers, Hayden Lessenberry, Josh Davis and Blaine Jackson, “had an excellent day behind the plate.”
Riley Hall was the winning pitcher in the final. Tyler Nelson picked up a save in relief. Marcus Wilson went 2 for 3 at the plate with a pair of doubles.
In the win over Mills, lefty Zach Cambron was the winning hurler. Joe Murdock singled in Evan Castleberry in the bottom of the third to complete the run-rule win in three innings.
In the opener, Quinton Motto was the winning pitcher. Jackson paced the offense with a 2 for 3 game including a double off the wall in center.
The wins made the B team (mostly freshmen) 7-0 this season going into a doubleheader against Little Rock Central at home on Tuesday, March 9.
