BAUXITE — The Bryant Blue Hornets seventh grade team of Bethel Middle School reached the[more] finals of a tournament held at Bauxite High School on Saturday. In the finals, the Hornets suffered a 39-23 loss to the host.
To get to the championship game, Bryant Blue downed Arkansas Baptist 30-9 and Jessieville 22-20.
The team is set to play against Bryant White tonight at the Bethel Middle School gym.
In the final, the Hornets trailed 12-5 after a quarter. Bauxite held a 19-14 edge at the half. It was 35-20 going into the fourth quarter.
Sam Chumley paced Bryant Blue with 9 points. Diante Woodson added 7, Reese Graham 3, Malcolm Moody and Preston Kyzer 2 apiece.
In the win over Jessieville, the Hornets managed a 6-4 lead by the first break and held a 14-8 advantage at the half. It was 19-14 going into the final period then they held off a comeback by the Junior Lions.
Matthew Sandidge paced the scoring with 9 points. Woodson had 6, Chumley 5 and Keith West 2.
Against Arkansas Baptist, Chumley finished with 13. West added 5, Moody 4 with Myers Buck, Sandidge, Mitchell Wollard and Parker Ray pitching in with 2 each.
The Hornets led 6-1 after a quarter then rolled out to a 17-3 lead by halftime. It was 24-3 going into the fourth quarter.
