LITTLE ROCK — All 17 players on the roster got into the game for the Bryant Blue Hornets seventh grade team of Bethel Middle School Wednesday night and 11 of them contributed to the scoring. The result was a 47-23 win over the Little Rock Episcopal Collegiate Wildcats in the consolation game of a tournament hosted by the Anthony School.
It was the first victory of the young season for the Hornets, now 1-2. They’ll return to action in a tourney at Episcopal set to start on Monday, Dec. 2.
The Hornets led 9-8 after a quarter but then surged to a 26-12 lead by halftime. It was 37-17 going into the fourth quarter.
Tyler O’Neil paced the scoring with 9 points. Randy Thomas added 8, C.J. Davis 6 and Josh Robinson 5. Logan Chambers and Jacob Eubanks finished with 4 each, Jeff Nelson 3. Chris Fuller, Henry Terry, Bryan Collins and Jake Dreher had 2 apiece.
“Most important was getting our first victory and second was that all 17 players got to play with 11 different players scoring,” said Hornets coach Derek McGrew. “We have great parental support at Bethel. 90 percent of these parents go to every game, which is important. They bring meals, support the teams, and it is always a good feeling when all get to contribute.”
