The Bryant Blue Lady Hornets eighth grade volleyball team of Bethel Middle School kept their unbeaten record intact Tuesday night but they had to battle hard to get the clinching set against the Bryant White Lady Hornets of Bryant Middle School.
In the end, the home Bethel team prevailed 25-9, 26-24.
“Erin Key had five good serves in a row and Alyssa Hernandez put together 10 straight serves to end the first set,” noted Bryant Blue coach Melissa Bragg. “In the second set, Ashton Inman had six straight good serves.
“The girls played hard and stayed focused every single play,” she stated.
Ashton Inman finished with two kills and two blocks for Bryant Blue. She also served up an ace and had one dig on defense. Hernandez, Skylar Risk, Key and Anna Barnes each had kills for Bethel. Key, Shaylee Carver and Risk each came up with blocks.
Abbey Inman led the team with six assists. At the service line, Risk, Olivia German, Carver and Jillian Colclasure each had an ace.
Madelyn Thomas led with five digs. Hernandez had three and German one.
For Bryant White, Natalie Horn and Nyla Bailey each had four kills. Madelyn Hoskins and Abigail Weihe knocked down two kills each and Shanti Adair had one to go with two blocks.
Melinda Hernandez produced five assists and Jaiyah Jackson had four.
At the service line, Bailey was 6 for 6 with four aces while Melinda Hernandez was good on all eight of her serves with two aces. Weihe had five good serves in six tries with an ace and Lauren Taylor went 5 for 6 as well.
Bryant White returns to action this Thursday, hosting Conway White before the freshman match.
Bryant Blue hosts Little Rock Christian on Thursday.
