LITTLE ROCK — For the second time this season, E-Stem, a charter school in Little Rock, handed a close defeat to the Bryant Blue Lady Hornets eighth grade team of Bethel Middle School. This time, it came on Tuesday[more] in the first round of the Wildcat Classic at Episcopal Collegiate Academy of Little Rock, 20-14.
In a seventh grade game played as part of the Classic as well, the Bryant Blue girls suffered a 23-14 defeat against Little Rock Christian.
The Bryant Blue eighth grade team includes Annamarie Blair, Isabella Bluemmel, Julie Brazil, Nikki Clay, Haley Dellis, Brittany Kelley, Mercedes Dillard, Yessenia Gasper, Katelyn Giffin, Emily Henson, Allison Hughes, Jamie Jamison, Rylee Phillips, Sadie Powers, and Dominque West.
The seventh grade team is Emma Barnes, Bailey Boyles, Whitney Brown, Sarah Bullington, Amber Burt, Megan Curry, Monica Guyett, Anna Lowery, Jordan McKnight, Racheal Miller, Kara Moser, Annie Patton, Peyton Ramsey, Britney Sahlmann, Kendall Selig, Lilly Smith, Ashlyn Taylor, Elizabeth Taylor, and Anna Turpin.
In the eighth grade game, Hughes led Bryant with 7 points. Clay added 4, Blair 2 and Jamison 1.
The Lady Hornets held a 5-4 lead after a quarter but struggled to score in the second period as E-Stem surged to a 10-7 lead by halftime. Bryant Blue narrowed the gap to 12-11 by the end of the third quarter.
In their second game at the Classic, the eighth grade team will play Thursday at 5 p.m., against Arkansas Baptist.
With both teams playing at the same time on Tuesday, no stats were kept for the seventh grade team which was set to return to Classic play this afternoon at 4 against Episcopal.
