LITTLE ROCK — The Bryant Blue Lady Hornets eighth grade basketball team will battle for a spot in the championship game of The Anthony School Classic today at 5 p.m. With a win over the host team, they’ll finish 3-0 in pool play to earn the opportunity after they eased to a 35-13 win over Little Rock Episcopal Academy on Tuesday.
Desera Duckworth poured in 20 points and hauled down 10 rebounds to lead the team to victory. Rori Whittaker added 5 points to go with six boards. Erica Smith, Jessica Alliston, Ashley Caton, Bree Forsyth and Keedy Harrison each pitched in with 2 points. Smith collected six rebounds and Andrea Bufford 4.[more]
“It was a great team effort and our players worked extremely hard in the game,” noted Lady Hornets coach Rhonda Hall.
At Bethel, the seventh grade girls, in a rematch with Cabot South, absorbed a 33-14 loss.
“The girls gave a much better effort and have showed marked improvement over their first game,” Hall stated.
Allysa Sturgeon, Allyson Hughes and Nikki Clad paced the Lady Hornets with 3 points each. Katlyn Giffin added 2. Isabella Bluemmel, Yessenia Gaspar and Jamie Jamison contributed a free throw apiece.
In a B game, Cabot South eked out a 5-4 win in overtime. Sarah Ashley Bryant and Annamarie Blair each had 2 points for Blue.
The seventh graders will return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 1, when they host Bryant White.
