Head coach Melissa Bragg implemented a new offense for her Bryant Blue Lady Hornets eighth grade team of Bethel Middle School last week and it passed the first test on Tuesday when the Lady Hornets beat The Anthony School, 25-19, 25-17.
“The team really came together,” Bragg said. “They performed (the new offense) wonderfully. Several members of the team contributed to the win.”
Bragg lauded the team’s improved serving. Madi Draper and Karlee Kindy each finished with four aces. Ally Benoit and Bailey Cunningham added two apiece.
In addition, Madi Rhodes and Jenna Vos had kills. Defensively, Cassie Ray came up with six digs.
In a seventh grade contest, the Lady Hornets came out on the short side of a 17-25, 26-28 score.
“I was really proud of how the girls played,” Bragg said. “Anthony was a tough team with strong servers. We were able to put a lot of rallies together.”
Bethel benefited from service aces from Grace Sams, Casey Welch, Ashley Davis and Hanna Williams.
The Blue eighth grade team returns to action at the Hornet Classic this Saturday. The seventh grade squad hosts Russellville on Sept. 16.
