LITTLE ROCK — The Bryant Blue Hornets eighth grade team of Bethel Middle School rolled to[more] a 46-20 win over the Arkansas Baptist Eagles to open the Wildcat Shootout at Episcopal Collegiate Academy Tuesday night.
Eleven players contributed to the scoring, led by Desmond Duckworth’s 12 points. Caylin Allen finished with 9 and Calvin Allen 7. Chris Adams finished with 5 while Derrick Blake, Jeffery Hastings, Chase Kincaid, Hunter Hadley, Phillip Isom-Green and Josh Bonner each pitched in with 2. Caleb Dorsey added a free throw.
Bryant Blue built a 10-5 lead by the end of the first quarter then ran away. It was 26-6 by halftime then 41-14 going into the final period.
“We’re looking at four games in five days, a tough stretch for young players,” stated Hornets coach Derek McGrew. “I’m glad that all 14 boys got to play and 11 of them scored.
“We had an excellent second quarter,” he noted. “Great defense, offense and intensity. I was able to sit the starters almost two quarters. The second group did not miss a beat and continued to play good basketball.”
Bryant Blue, now 4-1, continues action in the tourney this evening at 5 against the Anthony School.
