LITTLE ROCK — The Bryant Blue Hornets seventh and eighth grade teams advanced to the[more] semifinals of the Wildcat Shootout at Episcopal Collegiate Academy with wins on Wednesday night.
The eighth grade team posted a season-high point total in a 50-22 win over the Anthony School while the seventh grade avenged a season-opening loss by turning the tables on E Stem Charter, 21-18.
This evening, the eighth grade team will take on Lighthouse Charter at 4 p.m., with the seventh grade squad taking on Arkansas Baptist at 5.
Ten different players contributed to the scoring in the eighth grade team’s victory. Caleb Dorsey led with 11 points with Desmond Duckworth hitting for 10. Phillip Isom-Green scored 8, Calvin Allen 7, Hunter Handly 4 and Kameron Fox 3. Derrick Blake, Caylin Allen and Josh Bonner pitched in with 2 apiece. Jeffery Hastings added a free throw.
The Hornets, now 5-1 overall this season, built a 13-2 lead by the end of the first quarter and held a 28-5 advantage at the half. It was 37-13 by the end of the third quarter.
In the seventh grade team’s win, Sam Chumley and Diante Woodson connected for 8 points each. Keith West added 8 and Mitchell Wollard 2.
“They beat us the first game of the year so it was nice to return the favor,” commented Bryant Blue coach Derek McGrew of the 3-1 seventh grade team. “We are really struggling scoring, 21 in two games and 22 in the other. These young men are really competing, playing solid defense. They must find ways to score.”
