HOT SPRINGS —Ethan Thompson broke a 70-yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage and the Bryant Blue Hornets eighth grade B team of Bethel Middle School rolled to a 38-0 win over their counterparts from Hot Springs Lakeside Tuesday night.
Thompson wound up with 154 yards rushing on seven carries with two touchdowns.
Jonathan Smith scored the Hornets’ second TD and added a run for a two-point conversion on the team’s second possession.
Later in the first half, Parker Ray hauled in a 44-yard pass from Myers Buck to set up the third score. Buck threw to Ray for the touchdown and the two combined on the two-point conversion to make it 22-0 at the half.
Buck finished 6 of 8 passing for 122 yards.
After forcing Lakeside to punt to start the second half, the Hornets drove for another score. This time, Isaac McCombs hauled in a Buck pass for a 34-yard scoring play. Thompson ran in the conversion and it was 30-0.
In the fourth quarter, Thompson rolled 38 yards for his second touchdown. Jacob Thomason caught a pass for the two-point conversion to cap off the rout.
Bethel coach Dale Jones noted that Vincente Hernandez and Jonathan Santos each recovered fumbles for the Hornets.
The Bryant Blue B team is set to play again on Oct. 8 against Lake Hamilton. The A team is set to take on Conway Blue on the road this Thursday.
