LONOKE — The Bryant 10-and-under All-Stars advanced to the winners bracket semifinals at the[more] Cal Ripken South Arkansas State Tournament Sunday with a 14-1 thumping of the Crossett All-Stars. They’re set to tangle with the Sylvan Hills All-Stars on Monday at 4 p.m.
The Bryant Blue League 10’s, managed by Brian Hall with assistance from Jason Lester and Chuck Foster, are Chantz Clendening, Austin Cook, Matthew Curtis, Jayden Foster, Jonathan Hall, Dawson Harris, Tyler Jordan, Braydan Lester, Trey McKim, Joshua Prather, Braxton St. Clair, Austin Trimble.
Foster had a three-hit shutout over the first three innings, cruising after his teammates gave him a 9-0 lead in the second inning.
Neither team scored in the first which was highlighted by Bryant’s defense turning a doubleplay to erase a lead-off single in the bottom of the inning.
Bryant’s big second started with a double by Harris. Trimble was hit by a pitch and so was Curtis, loading the bases for Jordan, who singled in the first run. Lester followed with a base hit that plated two. With one out, Hall cracked an RBI single to make it 4-0.
McKim and Prather were both struck by deliveries from the Crossett pitcher who was pulled at that point. But Harris greeted the new hurler with a two-run single. Trimble drove in the eighth run with a sacrifice fly then Curtis singled to make it 9-0.
In the home second, Foster struck out the side around a two-out single then neither team scored in the third.
Bryant scored five more runs in the fourth. McKim and Prather singled then Clendening was hit by a pitch to load the bases. McKim scored on a pitch that got away from the catcher then Trimble belted a double to drive in two.
After another pitching change, Cook singled in a run and, with two down, he scored the final run on a hit by Lester.
In the bottom of the inning, Crossett put a couple of hits around a hit batsman to scratch out its lone run.
